Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about the app, subscriptions and privacy.
Contest Math Pro runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17 or later. On iPad, the scratchpad works with Apple Pencil; on iPhone, write with a finger.
Contest Math Pro is built for the AMC 8®, for students in grades 5–8. It has 538 original practice tests: 70 full exams (25 questions in 40 minutes, the AMC 8® format), the diagnostic placement test, and 467 shorter timed sets matched to each part of the contest (Q1–10, Q11–17, Q18–22 and Q21–25). With the practice bank behind the Mistake Bank and daily practice, that is 16,000+ original problems with step-by-step solutions.
The same skills help in other middle school contests such as MATHCOUNTS®, but CoMP's practice tests follow the AMC 8® multiple-choice format.
Yes, after the first launch. The app needs the internet once to unlock its practice library. After that, practice tests, the Mistake Bank, daily practice, the Gym and the scratchpad all work offline.
The Mathimus AI Coach, subscriptions and restoring purchases need an internet connection.
Some school networks block the services the app needs. Open the app once on home Wi-Fi or cellular: once the practice library unlocks, practice works offline, on any network.
To unlock the library at school (a class installing together, or after a Reset) and for the AI Coach at school, ask the school's IT team to allow (HTTPS) us-central1-contestmathpro.cloudfunctions.net (our server), www.googleapis.com and securetoken.googleapis.com (anonymous sign-in), firebaseappcheck.googleapis.com (app verification), and Apple's own services, which most school networks already allow.
When a student taps for help on a problem (there's no text box), Mathimus sees that problem and its verified answer and solution. It gives one hint at a time, explains the idea behind the next step, and asks the student to try it and pick an answer. Before the student has answered, Mathimus won't state the answer, and our server checks each reply for that. After a test, Mathimus can walk through full solutions.
A parent turns the AI Coach on, behind a parent check, and can turn it off at any time. Every message and reply is safety-checked, and conversations stay on math. Like any AI, Mathimus can make mistakes, so students are encouraged to check the math.
Free includes the diagnostic test, 1 full practice exam, the first 2 sets of each practice type, the Mistake Bank with unlimited retries, daily speed drills, Problem of the Day, the Gym, practice hints, the Parent Dashboard and PDF report, and 1 AI coaching conversation a day (one conversation covers up to 6 replies about the same problem).
Pro adds all 538 practice tests and 10 AI coaching conversations a day for each student (10× Free). It's $149.99 a year or $59.99 for 3 months (both with a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers), or $24.99 a month.
Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID. To restore Pro on a new device, open Progress > Parent Dashboard > Parental Controls & Privacy and tap Restore Purchases (it is also at the bottom of the Pro screen). To change or cancel, open Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions > Contest Math Pro on your iPhone or iPad. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period.
Yes. Pro covers up to 5 family members with Family Sharing. Each child installs the app on their own device; a parent opens Progress > Parent Dashboard > Parental Controls & Privacy there and taps Restore Purchases. Each child keeps their own progress and their own daily AI coaching conversations.
Open the Progress tab and tap Parent Dashboard (it asks for Face ID, Touch ID or the device passcode, or your Parent PIN if you chose one for your child's own device). Tap PDF Progress Report to view it, then use the share button to print, save or email it. The report shows progress by topic, recent scores, an estimated score range once there's enough practice, and a weekly plan. It's free for every family.
Practice history is stored on the device. To erase it and the anonymous account on our server, open Progress > Parent Dashboard > Parental Controls & Privacy and tap Reset All Student Progress & History. Deleting the app removes what is on the device but doesn't reach our server: the anonymous account's records there are kept on the schedule in our Privacy Policy. To delete them right away, reset before deleting the app. Questions? Contact us below.
Every problem in CoMP is original, and answers are checked by independent solver programs before release. If something still looks wrong, tap the flag button at the top of the question to report it from the app, or send us the test name and question number with the form above. We read every report.
